FIRST TIME FLY FISHER

Max has become a full-fledge fly fisher and I couldn’t be more happier for his beloved hobby. Fortunately, (sometimes unfortunately heh) he absolutely persists that I join him on his fishing adventures. I usually whine, but he always wins his way. I can’t complain about spending days with him, especially out in the wilderness and the fact that he wants me to tag along. Not going to lie though, there have been a few days where I have been absolutely cold and miserable by the river but this time was different.

We woke up in the morning lying in bed and Max said, “I want to take you to the river today.” For some time now, Max has wanted me to pick up fishing so bad. He’s even had me practicing in the back yard. I think he has been more antsy and excited for me to catch a friggen fish than me. I agreed, hopefully there wasn’t too much hesitation in my voice… But first we indulged in a homemade waffle breakfast.

When we arrived, Max tested the waters a bit and immediately let me take the ropes. We found the perfect spot close to the water and there were plenty of bad boys kissing the surface. Lots of flys out and about. Max guided me with casts and and yelled when to set. The first few times I think I got so excited to ‘set’ I pretty much almost threw the rod out of my hands. No fish were caught with that method but I finally got it down and snagged one.

My first fish! I probably squeezed it half to death. We captured some silly footage of my difficulty trying to even hold it and my face is beyond priceless with glee and excitement. Max so was unbelievably stoked too! Not only that, I managed to catch TWO! The second one I basically pushed out of the net trying to pick it up for show n’ tell… later dude.

It was an amazing feeling being able to do something so cool and rewarding. Max was nothing but patient and helpful. Gahh he was so proud of me :) Now I see why he goes to the river every chance he can get. I can't wait to go out with him again and catch some more! #ladytroutslayer
